Our Impact

IEEE Humanitarian Technologies (HT)

HT is a consortium of programs and initiatives—supported by a global network of volunteers and technical professionals—working together to apply technology to solve the world’s most pressing problems.

In keeping with the IEEE mission of advancing technology for the benefit of humanity, IEEE HT provides the resources, partnerships, and tools for developing and deploying innovative solutions to advance sustainable development goals globally while achieving social and environmental impact locally.

Impact Assessment and Metrics

HT looks at various factors to gauge the impact of the work of its programs and fulfill its goal of helping to assure quality technology for good related activities. In 2023, HT built upon the foundation of past work to create a framework for impact assessment and metric collection across the programs of the IEEE HT consortium.

The common metric framework is now used to collect information from the consortium programs. In the coming years, HTB expects iterations of the framework to support improvements in data consistency, data integrity, tracking mechanisms, and further integration of best practices in impact assessment.

Logo: IEEE Tech4Good

The IEEE Tech4Good program offers funding opportunities to support grassroots technological projects, led by IEEE members, that address local challenges related to sustainable development.

The projects are required to address one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Project teams must build a relationship with the partner community to identify a specific need and develop a plan to address it through the implementation of appropriate technology. They take into account the relevant environmental, cultural, socio-economic, and infrastructural issues that could affect the project and its impact. Many times teams partner with local government, NGOs, schools and universities, or companies to effectively deploy the solution.
